Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has directed the officials to expedite the investigation of SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act cases and ensure that the culprits are punished as soon as possible. He made it clear that the system should work so that those who commit crimes are punished properly, without misusing the law.
A state-level high-level committee chaired by the Chief Minister on the implementation of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and the welfare of SCs and STs met at the Chief Minister’s Camp Office today.
The Chief Minister called for a special study on the high number of atrocities cases registered against SCs and STs in Guntur, Anantapur, East Godavari and Prakasam districts.
The Chief Minister expressed dissatisfaction over the 131 district-level meetings that are still pending. He instructed them to understand the problems faced by SCs and STs at the field level and take appropriate steps to resolve them.
In the context of the passage of two and a half decades since the Justice Punnaiah Commission submitted its report, the Chief Minister ordered a comprehensive study of the conditions at that time and the changes that have occurred since then.
The Chief Minister emphasized that special attention should be paid to the education of SC and ST students and to prepare them to compete for admission in prestigious institutions like IITs and IIMs.
The Chief Minister said that the government is spending heavily on the development of SCs and STs. He said that the living standards of SCs and STs can be further improved by effectively utilizing programs like P4 and MBK 10-20. He explained that opportunities should be fully utilized through commercial crops like coffee and forest products to increase the income of tribal communities in agency areas.
The Chief Minister ordered the implementation of the Net Zero policy in hostels for SC and ST students. Ministers D.B.V. Swamy, V. Anitha, G. Sandhyarani, MPs Krishna Prasad, D. Prasad, MLAs from SC and ST constituencies were present.
