Devulapalli Ramalingam, a renowned senior journalist from East Godavari district, was known for his honesty, commitment, and straightforward nature.

He was the man behind the Velugu daily newspaper, which brought enlightenment to its readership. Having embarked on his career with a deep dedication to journalism, he remained steadfast in that commitment and integrity until the very end. The news of his passing—following a battle with illness while undergoing treatment at a private hospital—has left the entire journalism fraternity deeply saddened.

He is survived by his wife and two daughters. Ramalingam, who served as the editor of the Velugu daily from Rajahmundry, had been suffering from health issues for some time. Consequently, he was shifted to a hospital in Kakinada on Tuesday afternoon for advanced medical care. His family confirmed that he passed away at night while undergoing treatment.

Driven by a passion for journalism, Ramalingam began his career in 1985, working as a correspondent for Andhra Bhoomi in the Prathipadu constituency.  During the incident where Maoists kidnapped IAS officers in Gurtedu, he trekked 26 kilometers into the roadless Maredumilli forest to report on the situation; the resulting special stories earned him significant recognition.

Subsequently, serving as a Bureau Chief for the Vaartha daily newspaper in Bhimavaram, Mahabubnagar, Vijayawada, and Rajahmundry, he authored impactful stories that brought public issues to the forefront.

Throughout his 40-year journalistic career, he led a simple life. His passing is deeply saddening and represents an irreparable loss to the field of journalism. Having shared a four-decade-long association with Devulapalli Ramalingam  I—as a fellow journalist who knew him well—offer my heartfelt condolences and pray to the Almighty for his soul to rest in peace. — Raja Pentapati, Senior Journalist, Amaravati.
