The Southern Zonal Council meeting was held in Mahabalipuram today under the chairmanship of Home Minister Amit Shah. The Chief Ministers of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala and Puducherry attended the meeting.
Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, while highlighting the development of Andhra Pradesh and other southern states, called for more cooperation between the southern states. He said that trust and mutual cooperation between the Centre and the state are necessary to solve the problems.
The CM proposed a bullet train corridor connecting Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. He suggested that a bullet train should be run via Kuppam, and also called for a transport system connecting Amaravati, Bengaluru and Chennai.
The CM suggested setting up a common logistics network and dry ports across the southern states. He called for connecting the southern power grid to the national grid.
The Chief Minister proposed to form a joint consortium with universities and skill training institutes of the southern states. He suggested setting up a mutual aid force for inter-state cooperation during disasters.

The Chief Minister said that the southern states contribute about 31% to India’s GDP. Chandrababu said that the southern economy can reach $ 10 trillion by 2047. He said that the southern states should emerge as a key economic power in the construction of a developed India.
The Chief Minister said that the issues of Schedule IX and X institutions under the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act have not been resolved even after 12 years. He urged the Centre to expedite the resolution of issues related to bifurcation.
The Chief Minister called for expediting the clearances for the Dugarajapatnam port and refinery proposals. He sought the Centre’s approval for the Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada metro rail projects.
He sought the Centre’s approval for the Kadapa JSW railway link. The Chief Minister proposed to divert more than 500 TMC of water through the Godavari-Cauvery river linking project. The Godavari-Cauvery linking can provide a permanent solution to Tamil Nadu’s water problems. He called for Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu to work in coordination on river water issues.
The Chief Minister called for a long-term national plan for the Ganga-Cauvery river linking. He sought time-bound DPRs and approvals for the river linking projects.
Chandrababu Naidu said that the development of the southern states is possible only through cooperation and coordination. The Chief Minister wished the 31st Southern Zonal Council meeting a success.
