Municipal Administration Minister P. Narayana said that innovative policies are being followed to make the state a dumping yard-free state. The minister inspected the dumping yard opposite the paper mill on Friday.
He said that 7 thousand tonnes of solid waste is being generated in the state every day. If this waste is not processed regularly, there is a risk of accumulating tons of it.
It is estimated that there is another 156 lakh tonnes of legacy waste underground, and that waste will be processed by October 2. He also said that the processed RDF will be transported to cement factories.
He said that it has been decided to start six ‘waste to energy’ plants in Kadapa, Kurnool, Tirupati, Nellore, Vijayawada and Peddapuram. The construction of the plant in Peddapuram is in the advanced stage and will be completed in another year and 3 months.
The minister also said that the coalition government has sanctioned 107 processing plants to process the 7,000 tons of solid waste generated every day in the state.
That the government has paid special attention to the management of solid waste in the municipal corporations of the state. Keeping in mind the upcoming Pushkarams, MLA G. Butchaiah Chowdhury said that the people should also be aware.
The coalition government will soon find a permanent solution to the problem of the compost yard in the quarry area. MLA Adireddy Srinivas said that the people of Ratnampet, Luther Giri and R&B Colony have been facing serious problems for decades due to the accumulation of tons of legacy waste.
He said that the Pushkarams are a good opportunity to develop the city of Rajahmundry and that progress works will be carried out in the city in accordance with the wishes of the people. Srinivas stated.
