On the banks of both Godavari rivers, thousands of devotees took holy bath in the holy Godavari river from earley morning and performed special pujas to Goddess Godavari.
Kartika lamps were left in Godavari…Godavari river became crowded due to large number of devotees.
Thousands of devotees performed pilgrimage today mainly at Rajamahendravaram Pushkarala, Kotilingala, Gautami Ghat, Dhavileswaram Godavari Ghat and Kovvuru Gospadala ravu
Lakhs of devotees visited Markandeya Swamy temple as well as prominent Shaivite shrines of Ubhaya Godavari district.
The full moon day in the month of Kartika is considered very auspicious. This Kartika Poornami is the most auspicious month for Hari and Hari. Vedas and Puranas say that among all the months, Kartika month is special.
Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu are mostly worshiped in this month. It is a very favorite month for both of them and that’s why Shiva temples everywhere are crowded with devotees. Devotees flock to Godavari river on the occasion of Kartika Poornami.

In many temples, women lit Kartika lamps and offered prayers. Women performed special poojas in temples. This is causing congestion. Temples in the district were beautifully decorated with lamps.
In the rural areas too, as part of Kartika Purnami celebrations, women lit Kartika lamps in Shiva temples. Devotees performed special pujas in Shiva temples.
