A team of 44 Indian Council of Medical Research scientists visited Visakhapatnam Port Authority with the aim of providing first-hand insight into the infrastructure and strategic importance of the port to scientists.

As part of the M-Career Management Development Programme conducted by the Indian Institute of Management Visakhapatnam (IIMV), a team of 44 scientists from the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) visited the Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA) on August 12, 2026.

The main objective of the visit was to provide the scientists with a first-hand understanding of the operations, logistics, infrastructure and strategic importance of Visakhapatnam, one of the leading major ports in India.

The Visakhapatnam Port Authority officials warmly welcomed the visiting ICMR scientists and briefed them about the functioning and various activities of the port. The officials explained about the extensive infrastructure and facilities of the port. These include cargo handling operations, logistics systems, import and export operations, and transit of goods through the port.

Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA) officials interacted with the participants and answered their queries regarding port operations, infrastructure development, logistics, and the growing role of ports in India’s trade and economic growth.
