Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has called on the farmers to undertake the process of processing and adding value to the agricultural and horticultural products of our state.
He clarified that the value of the products will increase through the food processing process and there will be an opportunity for wealth creation, benefiting the farmers. The CM clarified that the idea of the coalition government is to export our agricultural and horticultural products to the international markets.
The Chief Minister, along with Vice President CP Radhakrishnan and Governor Abdul Nazeer, unveiled the Garme Popcornica non-GMO hybrid maize seeds at Musunur in Eluru district. He visited the country’s largest non-GMO exportable popcorn processing unit established by Garme Popcornica along with the Vice President.
Speaking at a public meeting later, the Vice President unveiled the non-GMO corn seeds being grown by farmers. Garme Popcorn is producing non-GMO seeds domestically on Indian soil in collaboration with farmers.
The popcorn grown from our Nuzvidu soil is exported to various parts of the country as well as other countries. Garme Popcorn has become the largest popcorn production company in the country.
This non-GMO hybrid corn is being produced on 40,000 acres with 17,500 farmers. It is heartening to set up the country’s largest popcorn processing plant at Musunur near Nuzvidu. Garme, which has a 70 percent share in the country’s popcorn production,
So far, the popcorn we have purchased has gone to Brazil and other countries on a large scale. From now on, this wealth will remain in our country. We need to export our popcorn not only to Asia but also to the global market. We will take steps to set up counters at railway stations to drink Andhra popcorn and Araku coffee.
The NDA governments at the Center and in the state see agriculture as an economic force and farmers as entrepreneurs. Our goal is to add value to the crops produced by farmers and export them.
We are able to process only 10 percent of what is produced in the state. If processing is increased, there is a chance of earning more wealth. If water security is achieved, the country’s development is unstoppable. Chief Minister Chandrababu made it clear. Ministers Naralokesh, K. Atchannaidu, Kolusu Parthasarathy and others attended this program.
