Kondru Sanjaymurthy from Andhra Pradesh has taken over the prestigious Comtroller and Auditor General of India.  He took oath as the head of CAG on Thursday.
First lady Draupadi Murmu was sworn in by him at a function held at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in Delhi.  Sanjay Murthy has achieved the rare honor of being the first Telugu person to hold this post.

Sanjay Murthy is the son of former Amalapuram MP KSR Murthy.  He was born on December 24, 1964. He studied engineering in the mechanical department.  In 1989, he was selected as an IAS officer in the Himachal Pradesh cadre and later served in the Central Services.  Working as the National Higher Education Secretary from September 2021, he played an active role in the implementation of the new education policy introduced by the Central Government.

While he is due to retire as an IAS officer next month, the Center recognized Sanjay’s services and entrusted him with this key responsibility.  Those appointed to this position can continue for a maximum period of six years and up to the age of 65 years. 

Sanjay Murthy’s father KSR Murthy represented the Lok Sabha from Amalapuram in 1996 on behalf of the Congress.  Earlier he also served as an IAS officer in the Central Government at the level of Secretary.
