Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) has launched its latest communication satellite into space with the help of Elon Musk’s SpaceX.
ISRO’s GSAT-N2 (GSAT 20) launched from Cape Canaveral, Florida on Monday late night in a Falk 9 rocket.
GSAT-N2 is the most advanced communication satellite of ISRO. Providing broadband services even to the remotest villages of India and to passengers in airplanes The satellite aims to provide in-flight internet.
The rocket launch process lasted for 34 minutes. SpaceX went live on the official X account.
This GSAT N2 (GSAT 20) project has been undertaken by ISRO in the most prestigious manner. But its weight is 4700 kg! It exceeds the capability of Indian rockets. Hence ISRO chose SpaceX for the satellite launch. The total cost of this mission is 60-70 million dollars.
GSAT-N2 is designed to meet the growing demand for high-speed internet in areas where connectivity is limited. Featuring a combination of narrow-wide spot beams, including eight dedicated to the northeastern states, the satellite’s construction allows for frequency reuse! It increases efficiency and coverage greatly. Offering broadband connectivity through small user terminals, this satellite caters to a large subscriber base.
The GSAT-N2 launch was an important milestone in India’s space and telecommunication endeavours. It also serves as part of a broader mission to improve connectivity across India’s vast and diverse territory.
Elon Musk has lobbied for the approval of the project under US President-elect Donald Trump’s administration. The launch of GSAT-N2, together with the growing collaboration between ISRO-SpaceX, heralds a new era of technological advancement and international cooperation in space exploration.
