The Chief Minister has made it clear to the ministers and officials that immediate steps should be taken to reduce the impact of El Nino and prevent people from facing drinking water problems, take steps to ensure that farmers get irrigation water and sensitize the farmers towards the cultivation of dry crops so that not a single acre of crop should be lost in the state.
The decisions taken on various issues in the Council of Ministers meeting held at the State Secretariat under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu were explained to the media by the State Information, Public Relations and Housing Minister Kolusu Parthasarathy.
Minister Parthasarathy explained that due to the impact of El Nino, the state has received less than normal rainfall and so far, 52 percent less rainfall has been recorded.
The fact that only 60-65 percent has been cultivated so far this year reflects the seriousness of the situation. The Chief Minister has ordered state ministers, public representatives and officials to visit the field level and explain to the farmers and provide advice on crop rotation.
He said that appropriate steps should be taken to encourage farmers to opt for rainfed crops. For this, the CM has ordered the government to prepare 90 thousand kg of rainfed crop seeds for distribution. The Chief Minister has approved a financial assistance of Rs. 90 crore for seed subsidy.
The Chief Minister has ordered that steps be taken to overcome the shortage of animal feed.
He said that awareness seminars should be organized with the faculty members of agricultural universities and colleges in the districts on the cultivation of profitable crops with less water resources for farmers.
He said that due to the effect of El Nino, drinking water problems are inevitable in the state, and there are 14,829 habitations across the state. Minister Parthasarathy said that the Chief Minister has ordered to prepare proposals according to residential areas.
He said that immediate steps should be taken like drilling boreholes or supplying drinking water through tankers in possible areas. If necessary, they are thinking of bringing tankers from other states on a rental basis.
He said that NIELIT (National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology) is not being shifted from Tirupati, and there is no truth in the misinformation being spread by some. The Minister explained that a Quantum AI University is being set up in Amaravati to further strengthen our state in the field of Artificial Intelligence, and that permission has been given to set up three universities in our state.
