The National Virology Lab in Pune has identified the ‘Omicron RF.5’ variant as the cause of Covid positive cases in Andhra Pradesh – a conclusion that the WHO has concluded that there is no evidence that this virus causes serious complications.

Samples of four Covid positive cases registered in YSR Kadapa district have been sent to the National Virology Lab in Pune. Genome sequencing tests have revealed that it is ‘Omicron RF.5’
The ‘Omicron RF.5’ variant has been found to be the cause of the recent Covid positive cases registered in the state. The Medical and Health Department said that the Covid-2 virus has changed its genes over time and has become the Omicron variant, and the sub-variant of that lineage is RF.5.
Health department officials have received the test results report. Health Minister Satyakumar Yadav virtually discussed the results received from Pune, the impact of the variant and the latest situation in the state with top officials.
DME Dr. A. Vishnu Vardhan explained to the minister that the World Health Organization (WHO) considers RF.5 as a common variant. He said there is no evidence that this virus causes serious problems.
He said that RF.5 cases have been reported more in Singapore and some countries in Southeast Asia and there is no evidence to say that it is more dangerous compared to other Omicron variants. If infected with this virus
Symptoms include sore throat, cough, fever, headache, runny nose, nasal congestion and sore throat. People have been advised not to worry and remain alert.
16 Covid cases in the state..
The number of Covid cases in the state has reached 16 as of Saturday, the Department of Medical and Health said. Minister Satyakumar Yadav said in a statement that special wards have been prepared in teaching hospitals.

He explained that hospitals have been prepared to deal with the current situation. He said that adequate kits and other facilities are being prepared to detect Covid cases.
