To lay the foundation for the establishment of a powerful coconut fiber industry in the district based on the main livelihood of the people of Konaseema district, the “Konaseema Coir Conclave” two-day workshop will be organized on the 16th and 17th of this month, District Collector R. Mahesh Kumar said.
On Thursday, the second phase of coordination and cooperation readiness meeting was held at the District Collectorate with the officials of the relevant departments under the chairmanship of the Collector. He directed to work towards the establishment of at least 50 new coir industries in the district in the next three months.
The two-day conference will be attended by about 15 subject experts and senior officials from Kerala and Andhra Pradesh states who will provide information on subsidies, government schemes and cutting-edge technology. The Collector said that 350 representatives including aspiring entrepreneurs, women and youth interested in setting up industries are being invited by the DRDA and Horticulture departments.

He said that currently only 20% of the peaches available in the district are being used. He said that this workshop is an excellent platform to convert the remaining 80% of waste into wealth, which will not only increase rural employment but also provide employment to women and youth on a large scale.

He clarified that Konaseema district is recognized for its coconut and coir products, and the main objective of this conclave is value addition and international marketing linkages. He said that this workshop will help in expanding the international market through technical training, quality standards, business management, digital marketing, government subsidies, and use of digital portals.
