AMARAVATI  , OCT 17,  The railway station being built in the rapidly developing Machilipatnam, will be fully operational by next March after completing all the work, Vijayawada Railway Divisional Manager Mohit Sonakia said.

Speaking at a face-to-face programme called ‘Rail Jan Samvad’ organized with passengers from the town and surrounding villages at the Machilipatnam railway station premises on Saturday, the Divisional Manager said that the difficulties faced by the elderly and the disabled in moving from the first platform to two or three platforms with their luggage will be eliminated by next March.

By then, the construction of the flyover bridge currently under construction will be completed, a ramp will be installed to facilitate the steep climb, and elevators will be installed to connect it to two or three platforms, he explained in a face-to-face meeting. He said that the current Machilipatnam-Visakhapatnam Express train should be extended up to Palasa or at least to Srikakulam.

Thousands of people from Uttarandhra who have migrated to Machilipatnam, Gudivada and the surrounding areas of these towns have requested that the train be given a stopover at Chilakalapudi, which would make their journey convenient. Another travel representative said that if the current Machilipatnam-Yesvantpur Express, which runs only three days a week, is converted into a daily express, it will be very beneficial for the gold covering industry, which depends on over 50,000 people who commute to Bengaluru for business.

Also, a halt should be given at Chilakalapudi, which is the centre of rolled gold processing. Another requested that the cancellation of the Machilipatnam-Tirupati train be unjust and that it be revived. Responding to these issues, the Divisional Manager assured that they would do their best to resolve them.

Divisional Public Relations Officer Smt. Susrat M. Mandrushkar and several other railway officials participated in this Rail Jan Samvad programme. Machilipatnam Railway Officer Ameer invited the officials to the stage and welcomed them
