There are political frictions and speculation of a rift, but there is no confirmed open break or formal dispute between Chandrababu Naidu and Pawan Kalyan.
The main tension is currently around seat-sharing for local-body elections and competing claims over political credit.
Seat-sharing negotiations: Ahead of AP’s municipal/local-body polls, Janasena has reportedly sought a larger share of seats, including six municipal corporations and 40 municipalities, while TDP wants to protect its own grassroots base. This has created negotiation pressure rather than an outright confrontation.
TDP and Janasena workers have clashed or exchanged sharp words in places such as Pithapuram and Konaseema, mainly over flex banners and local political dominance.
Reports describe continuing trolling and criticism between TDP and Janasena supporters online, even though the top leadership has publicly maintained unity.
Pawan Kalyan reportedly skipped several Cabinet meetings and public events, prompting speculation about differences with Chandrababu; however, his health and strategic political priorities have also been cited as explanations.
Remarks on 2023 arrest protests: Pawan Kalyan’s comment that Janasena workers came forward after Chandrababu’s 2023 arrest irritated some TDP supporters, who felt it understated TDP’s role. But the seat-sharing issue is a real test, and unresolved negotiations could create friction within the NDA before the October 28 municipal polls.
Not a confirmed personal or formal dispute—but yes, there are visible alliance tensions, especially over seats, local cadre rivalry, and political credit.
Janasena’s demand is substantially larger than what TDP is willing to concede for AP’s urban local-body polls, though the alliance now says it has broadly settled the arrangement without friendly contests. The official seat list has not yet been released.
Later reports indicated the compromise could be four mayor seats and 20–24 municipalities, with TDP contesting the bulk—about 12 corporations and 82 municipalities/nagar panchayats.
Other sticking points
Pawan Kalyan’s argument is that Janasena workers made sacrifices for the 2024 NDA victory and therefore deserve stronger representation; TDP’s position is that its larger grassroots presence must be reflected in the final allocation.

As the seats allocation between Jana Sena and TDP has not been finalized, intense public discussions are underway regarding the situation of those parties.
