The trained elephants Jayant and Abhimanyu, who are being shifted from the Musalamadugu elephant camp in Palamaneru to the Guchimi elephant camp in Parvathipuram Manyam district, were welcomed by the Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Forest and Environment Pawan Kalyan at the Mangalagiri camp office.
The Deputy Chief Minister welcomed the elephants by showering flowers on the way and personally fed them. Later, he flagged off the second leg of the elephants’ journey to the Guchimi camp.
On this occasion, Pawan Kalyan directed the forest department officials on the steps to be taken for the safety of the elephants during the journey. After reaching the Guchimi camp, he clarified that necessary steps will be taken to acclimatize them to the climatic conditions there under the supervision of experts.
Pawan Kalyan said on this occasion that the services of Jayant and Abhimanyu will be very useful in controlling human-elephant conflicts in the surrounding areas of Parvathypuram. He said that the Kunkis are being moved as part of the measures taken by the coalition government with scientific and humane methods to achieve the goals of public safety, protection of farmers’ crops and conservation of wildlife.
In the context of the fact that groups of elephants from the border areas of Odisha often enter Parvathypuram Manyam district, causing damage to crops and properties, these Kunki elephants are being moved to the Guchimi camp as part of the special measures taken by the coalition government to prevent human-elephant conflicts. Kunki elephants Jayant and Abhimanyu will be used as part of the measures to prevent human-elephant conflicts.
These two elephants have played a key role in several key operations conducted in the Palamaneru and Chittoor areas in the past. They were very active in safely diverting herds of wild elephants to forest areas.
