A deep depression formed in the Bay of Bengal crossed the coast between Kalingapatnam and Polaki in the early hours of Thursday. Due to its impact, heavy rains and gusty winds were recorded in the districts of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam and Anakapalle in north coastal Andhra Pradesh. The wind speed was 55-65 km per hour, and occasionally up to 75 km per hour, APSDMA officials said.

Due to the severe low pressure area formed over Andhra Pradesh and adjoining South Odisha, thunderstorms, strong winds and heavy to very heavy rains are likely in many districts, so the officials have issued warnings to the people of Andhra Pradesh to be alert.

According to the India Meteorological Department, coastal Andhra Pradesh is likely to receive very heavy rains today and tomorrow. Thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds are also likely.

IMD predictions for September 24:
Coastal Andhra Pradesh and adjoining areas are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rains, with isolated heavy rains.

The IMD flash flood risk guidelines (up to September 24) indicate low to moderate risk of flash floods in some parts of these north coastal districts.

Officials said that four NDRF and five SDRF teams have been deployed in Srikakulam, Alluri Seetharamaraju, Visakhapatnam and Anakapalle districts. These teams are ready to take up rescue, evacuation and relief operations in case of emergency.

Disruptive rains, waterlogging and travel delays are likely, especially in the northern coastal districts. Fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea along and off the south Odisha-north Andhra coast due to rough sea conditions and strong winds.
