Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has made it clear that there will be no compromise on the empowerment of BCs. He announced that he will appeal in the Supreme Court against the High Court verdict on BC reservations.

The Chief Minister said that the coalition government is committed to providing political, social and economic empowerment to BCs.

The Chief Minister, who participated in the NTR Bharosa Pension Distribution Program held under the ‘Pedala Sevalo’ initiative in Repalle in Bapatla district today, recalled the efforts of former Chief Minister N.T. Rama Rao in providing political identity to BCs and said that he had continuously supported and encouraged their progress.

He said that in 1995, his government introduced 34 percent reservation for BCs in local bodies.  However, when the previous government reduced the quota to 24 percent, about 16,800 people lost their chances of holding elected positions.

After coming to power and restoring 34 percent reservation for BCs, the opposition party moved the courts and filed petitions challenging this decision. The High Court struck down the government order, arguing that the reservation should not exceed 50 percent. The government will appeal the verdict in the Supreme Court tomorrow, the Chief Minister said.

He alleged that the opposition, which has not provided a single teaching job during his tenure, has filed nearly 350 cases in the courts in an attempt to obstruct the recruitment process and that the opposition is creating legal hurdles to prevent the implementation of reservations.

The Chief Minister announced that 36 projects worth Rs. 35,000 crore will be completed in the next three years. Stressing the need to balance development with environmental protection, he made these remarks.

He said that Rayalaseema is being developed as a global horticulture hub with an investment of Rs. 1 lakh crore, covering 10 districts, including Prakasam district. Chandrababu Naidu said that the initiative will promote horticulture, logistics, tourism and other allied sectors, thereby creating new opportunities for farmers and industrialists.
