AMARAVATI NOV 30 –  Finally, the coalition government has issued a special GO No 1913 Dt. 30/9/26 to prevent attacks on journalists. Journalists across the state have expressed happiness over the decision taken by Chief Minister Chadra Babu and Information Minister Parthasarathy on the issue of journalists.

The coalition government has taken a step forward to prevent attacks, murders and harassment on journalists. The coalition government is moving forward by taking every step possible to establish a high-power committee for the welfare of journalists.

It has already restored the necessary facilities for journalists like accreditation and health insurance. During the previous government, many journalists were not able to get accreditations even though they were eligible. But this time, the number has increased significantly as it was given to all those who were eligible.

The High Power Committee set up in 2016 under the previous TDP government worked very effectively. The YSRCP government that came to power in 2019 has ruined the welfare of journalists for five years.

As a result, many attacks and murders have taken place on journalists across the state. During the YSRCP regime, many journalists who denounced or brought to light the government’s authoritarian and anti-people policies fell victim to the YSRCP rulers, leaders and activists of those parties. The previous government did not respond adequately to those who committed murders and attacks on journalists, and the action was also null and void.

In this context, Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu has taken a special initiative to protect the value of journalism, known as the Fourth Estate, and to provide security to journalists who risk their lives to perform their duties. In this regard, the State Minister for Information and Public Relations, Shri Kolusu Parthasarathy, has discussed the formation of a High Power Committee of Journalists with senior officials several times.

As a result, today the Government has issued a GO for the formation of a High Power Committee of Journalists. The High Power Committee has been formed with the State Home Minister as the Chairman and the Minister for Information and Public Relations as the Vice Chairman, representatives from the Journalists’ Associations as members, and the Commissioner for Information and Public Relations as a member.
