State Consumer Affairs, Food and Civil Supplies Minister Nadendla Manohar said that arrangements are being made for the procurement of 2026-27 Kharif grain without any difficulties for the farmers. He clarified that the main objective of the government is to do justice to the farmers.
He said that alternative arrangements are being made without shortage of gunny bags. The target is to procure 37 lakh metric tons of grain, and if necessary, the grain procurement estimates will be increased in consultation with the Central Government.
State Consumer Affairs, Food and Civil Supplies Minister Nadendla Manohar participated in the 2026-27 Kharif grain procurement state-level preparedness meeting held at the Anthralux Convention Center in Vijayawada on Friday.
He said that the target is to procure 37 lakh metric tons of grain across the state in this Kharif season. Although it was initially estimated that there would be an El Nino effect, the state is currently receiving abundant rains for three days, which is likely to increase the yield of grain. Therefore, the production estimates will be reviewed again and revised if necessary.
He said that steps are being taken to ensure that the transport charges of farmers who arrange their own vehicles and transport grain are deposited in their accounts as soon as possible. He revealed that about 31 thousand vehicles will be made available for grain procurement across the state of this Kharif.
He said that 6.10 crore gunny bags are being made available for grain procurement this season. He said that they are making sure that quality gunny bags are available to farmers. The minister said that if there is a shortage of gunny bags anywhere, alternative bags have been ordered to be made available immediately.
He said that 2,619 grain procurement centers are being set up across the state this Kharif season. He said that about 24 thousand staff will provide services to farmers.
The minister also asked the rice millers to fully cooperate with the government in the grain procurement process. He said that the government intends to set up a special cell at the state level to immediately resolve the problems of farmers regarding grain procurement.
The minister said that the Kharif grain procurement process will start from November 1st across the state. The minister said that priority is being given to transparency, speed and accountability in grain transportation. He revealed that about 31 thousand vehicles equipped with GPS will be used for this.
